Bandits abduct 55 wedding guests in Katsina

Gunmen, suspected to be bandits, attacked a wedding convoy in Damari town, Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The incident resulted in the tragic death of three people, and at least 55 guests were kidnapped during the assault.

The attack took place around 9 pm on Thursday, according to residents, and was reported by Sahara Reporters on Friday.

The wedding guests, part of a convoy escorting a bride, were ambushed by the gunmen while travelling in an open van. Sources, as quoted by Sahara Reporters, stated that the initial number of guests exceeded 70, with some managing to

escape by jumping off the moving vehicle during the attack. Alhaji Basiru Musa, Chairman of the neighbouring Dandume Local Government Area, confirmed the incident.

While there are unverified reports of some kidnapped women escaping, Musa has promised to verify these claims and provide updates.

The victims, primarily friends of the bride from Dandume, were intercepted by the bandits on their journey from Sabuwa. Both Sabuwa and Dandume are local government areas in Katsina State significantly impacted by banditry.

Around the same time as the wedding guest abduction, gunmen believed to be from the Siddi forest attacked Tashar Nadaya near the Gazari district border in Sabuwa Local Government Area. In this separate incident, a commercial motorcycle rider was killed, and his bike was stolen. The attackers also fired at a group of four individuals, seizing their motorcycles.
